The way I see it, we need to hold on to all of our history- NOT just the good things. Our nation is caught up in a Salemesque modern day witch hunt for anything confederate. Flags, statues, plaques, and memorials that refer to the confederate history of the civil war are being demonized and removed in knee jerk reactions to loosely related tragic events taking place in these modern times.

Should all traces of the confederate flag be erased from existence? Absolutely not. It represents, and needs to represent, a shameful period of our country's past. If we pretend it doesn't exist, we forget every thing that happened beneath it. We have to remember the wrongs, or be doomed to repeat them.

Should the confederate flag be flown and proudly displayed for any reason other than remembering its historical place in history? Absolutely not, especially now that misguided members of our society have used it to promote hateful causes.

The swastika was an ancient symbol which was used for centuries as an artistic design element. Nobody thought a thing against it until Adolf used it as a symbol of his evil deeds. We don't hear anyone still wanting to use it for design purposes anymore.

The way I see it. We must hold on to the artifacts of our history. But, those artifacts should not be used in ways that disturb or disrespect any member of this great American society.
