The way I see it, sell phones are making some major changes, some unexpected, in how we live nowadays. I got to thinking about it last night while sitting in the Cell Phone Parking Lot at San Antonio International Airport waiting for my wife to get in. About fifteen years ago, I would have parked the truck, walked over to the baggage area, met her, and carried her luggage back to the truck. About ten years ago, I started parking for free in a business near the airport and making a loop past the arrival doors every few minutes until I saw her standing there. Now, I park in the Cell Phone Lot and wait for her to call and say she is standing out front-ready to go. I think that is a good change, even though it means the driver doesn't even get out of the car to help, and we wait until we get home to have that "welcome home" kiss.

There are other things that are not so good. The one I hate the most is people who would never use their cell phones while driving, but feel totally fine with catching up at the stop lights. Then the light changes, and we sit through half of it waiting for them to notice. Most of us are afraid to hit the horn. Nowadays that can be fatal. But, the road rage it causes me can't be all that healthy, either.

I read an article the other day that said a restaurant compared their video surveillance from a while back to that of today. People are spending over an hour longer in the restaurant, which is cutting down sales. They figured out that most of that extra hour was wasted on cell phones. Instead of studying the menu, ordering their food, and eating it, people are on their cell phones gumming up the works.

The way I see it, this will only get worse in the future. What do you think?
