HOW DO YOU DEFINE "STAR"?
Posted on March 18th, 2014
The way I see it, our country has a hard time deciding which celebrities deserve the title of "star". You used to have a large number of critically acclaimed works under your belt, or were recognized as the cream of the crop in your area of entertainment. Now, show up on a fifteen-minute segment of a reality show, and you are a "star". Dancing with the Stars is the best example of this. Let's be honest, most of those "stars" are has-beens, and a good percentage of them are never-weres. They get people in their thirties who were on a sitcom for three months when they were four and call them stars. Ridiculous.
We have the same problem with the word "classic". I don't care how good a movie is, if it just came out a year ago, it isn't a classic. A classic movie is one that was great when it first came out and continues to be considered great for decades after. No need to rush it. If a movie is good enough, some day it will deserve to be called a classic.
