The way I see it, a lot of our people are letting the threat of a pandemic whip them into a brainless frenzy. They are rushing to stockpile things like face masks, hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol, and toilet paper as if the world is coming to an end. The are spreading misinformation with each other as if it is 100% proven fact. A friend on Facebook posted that the US death count hit 500 yesterday. I heard another lady talking at Walmart the other day and claiming that there are now almost 24, 000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States. She has a friend with a friend with a friend with a friend who works at a hospital in Dallas who told her they are currently treating over 600 confirmed positive cases.

So what does all that actually mean? It means that a lot of people out there have no faith in our CDC. I blame two major things for that. First, some of those asshats trying to win the Democratic primaries have used some really inexcusable advertising methods. They may be loosely based on some truths, but they paint a picture of our government being totally inept at dealing with disease. Many people believe everything they see on television and don't take the time to visit good sources like the CDC and the World Health Organization for information. The second thing is the news medias' new approach as an entertainment industry. They constantly bombard us with misleading teasers designed to get us to watch them. I'm talking about this type of thing, "Man with COVID-19 self quarantines himself after two days at a resort. We'll tell you where and what precautions the city is taking at 6:00 PM". Then, at 6:00PM we find out this happened in a city in Zimbabwe- NOT right here in our hometown!

I'm not saying that people shouldn't prepare themselves for an impending outbreak of an infectious disease. The way I see it, the best way to do that is to get your information from the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/) or the World Health Organization (https://www.who.int/). They will give you true numbers. They will tell you what may happen as the virus spreads. They will tell you how to prepare. They will tell you what to expect, if and when you or a family member contract the disease. They will tell you what you can do to give yourself the best chances for avoiding it. Finally, they will teach you how to wash your frapping hands. The way I see it, you should always be doing that!
